Through the Looking Glass

A series of works inspired by the hidden worlds that are revealed by the microscope lens.
I was inspired by Robert Hooke’s book Micrographia, published in 1665, which was the first book to illustrate the microscopic world and demonstrate the power of the microscope to the public (full title: Micrographia: or Some Physiological Descriptions of Minute Bodies Made by Magnifying Glasses. With Observations and Inquiries Thereupon !).
The compositions in this series are all circular, mirroring the typical view given when using a microscope. The decorative style was chosen to emphasise the sometimes surreal, sometimes abstract but always intriguing realm of the microscopic.
